Old Chair, New Use

Went to a yard sale a few months ago and found this chair, it was only $2.00 so I grabbed it.  I always have visions when I see things like this, how I'm going to paint it, how or where I am going to use it.  It was a little rickety so I had to tightened it up.  I have to say it was well worth the price, and the chair now has a new use in my home.

Used my "mouse sander" and sanded the varnish off of it.  

This is the paint I used, it goes on great! Spray paint is your friend remember.

I love the rush seat on the chair so I preserved that, I used painter's tape and newspaper, and carefully covered it so paint did not get on it.

 The first coat of paint is on, flipped it over to paint the underside, then put a second coat of paint on.

 Amazing what a little bit of elbow grease, and a fresh coat of paint, will do for a worn out piece of furniture.  This chair now sits at my desk in the kitchen, and I no longer have to "borrow" a chair from the dining set.  I love how it turned out, and I hope I get many more years of use from it.

And Speaking Of Tables....

I had these two patio tables that got rusty from all the summers they have been used on my deck.  I didn't want to buy new ones, so I thought I would paint them.  They weren't broken, so why not freshen them up and still use them.  I had this textured, bronze colored paint left over from another project and decided to use it up.  An inexpensive fix and beats buying anything new.  Remember, the spray paint can is your friend.

And this is one of the tables.  This table was really bad.  I sanded both of them down just to get all the loose paint and rust off of them.  I flipped it over and did the underside first.

One coat, then the second coat....

And BOOM BABY!, the next thing you know it's a new table on the deck!

Crafty Crafter

This time of year I am always looking for things to make or transform.  I found this chalkboard at Marshall's in the clearance bin for $7.00, so I took it home, took it apart, and painted the frame with a textured rusty spray paint, and then re-painted the chalkboard with black chalkboard paint.  It now looks old and rusty!  I will use it in the foyer with seasonal greetings written on it.  I may even decorate it with small garlands.

It has taken me 7 years to cover the seat on the island in my closet and I finally did it!  I recycled an old heavy shower curtain that I loved, it shrunk in the dryer, and I already had the foam and batting to make the cushion.  Here is a TIP:  Cut your foam with an electric knife.  Measure it and mark it off with marker, then cut.  It is so much easier than using scissors, and the fabric stores only give you one free cut.  

    

Vintage mirror: I painted the frame silver and the mirror with chalkboard paint. I am going to hang on a Christmas wreath and write Merry Christmas on it. 

These snowmen I made for my sister to hang on her tree.  They are made of cardboard and old sheet music glued together then cut into shape. I drew the faces, stars and hearts on, burned the edges of them, then decorated them with iridescent glitter.  They have glittery garland scarves, pipe cleaner arms and twine hangers.

This was an old ugly 1970's tan chair with ripped vinyl seat, that my daughter was using at her desk in her bedroom.  I sanded it, spray painted it black and covered the seat with a white and black pin dot fabric to match her room.  Always remember...... spray paint is your friend!
